MTN Ghana Foundation The MTN Foundation is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management structure for the MTN Group's related initiatives across its 22 operations. The MTN Ghana Foundation was established in 2007 as a single purpose vehicle to drive all MTN's CSR initiatives in the country. The Foundation currently has three focus areas – Health, Education and Economic Empowerment. Vision To be the benchmark for Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives in Ghana and within the MTN Group Mission To improve the quality of lives of people through appropriate and sustainable corporate social responsibility interventions in communities where MTN operates. Funding for Foundation MTN’s global policy is to have a proportion of each operating unit’s profit after tax dedicated to undertaking corporate social responsibility activities. MTN and Huawei Launched the first NB-IoT solution in Africa MTN and Huawei jointly launched the Smart Water Metering solution, the first Narrowband Internet of Things (NB IoT) solution in Africa. The solution is designed to help MTN develop their NB IoT services to explore new markets. The Smart Water metering solution enables the automated collection of utility meter data, while manual meter reading leads to high labor costs and missing or inaccurate data. Through sensors installed in water meters, customers can identify water pipeline leakage earlier. Household water meters will automatically report data on a regular basis, reducing fault probabilities and the operating expense. Powered by the NB-IoT technology by Huawei, the sensor array is designed to serve as a diagnostic spine that underpins network management. The data gathered can be used to control waste water flows from each property, identify faults across the network and improve health and safety outcomes. Bab
MTN Organizes Training in Digital Communications for Media MTN Ghana has organized a capacity building session in Feature Writing and Digital Communications as part of its Media Development Forum for targeted online media persons and select business journalists in the country. The Corporate Communications Senior Manager of MTN Ghana, Gina Fiagbenu who facilitated the program encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the digital space to reach more audiences and to expand their scope of work. She said MTN will continue to share knowledge with the media in line with its vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world. Kwasi Gyan Apenteng, a veteran journalist, member of Ghana’s Media Commission and President of the Ghana Association of Writers took the opportunity to advise the media fraternity to do more interesting features for media outlets. He said the additional angles they bring to stories can make them more attractive for the international audience. H
