ENHANCING THE WORK OF BLOGGERS WITH ADVANCE SOCIAL MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGICAL TRAINING

Takoradi, September 15, 2017 – MTN held a media training for the media personnel in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. Traditional media  is becoming the thing of the past and now social media is dominating and leading in the spread of news and information in the media and in our environment in general so there was the need to train the traditional media personnel to adapt to the new environment now.


Mr. Maximus Ametorgoh who was the facilitator said that  in the world global digital snapshot of 7.1476 billion people, 3.773 billion uses the internet, 2.789 billion are active social media users, 4.917 billion are unique mobile users and 2.549 billion are active mobile social users using mobile phones for social media purposes.


He also included that of the Ghanaian internet statistics which provides data of 27.9 million people using internet actively, 6 telecommunications companies excluding the internet service providers, 5 4G network operators, 39,234,216 mobile voice subscriptions, 19,697,062 mobile data subscriptions and 4.5 million Ghanaians on Facebook.

In his session during the training he gave the media personnel the differences between traditional media and social media and also made a clear advantage between them such as social media being an engagement platform whilst traditional media is through reach or frequency and also social media being cost effective and traditional media being costly.

The training was meant to equip the media personnel with the skills on how to include social media in their traditional way of providing information to the public and to also improve the way they do it by adapting to the advantages and new technologies social media produces for them to be able to reach out to the mass number of people within a relatively short time.

The media personnel were given some hands on practical during the session to see how effective their understanding to adapting and including social media to improve traditional media would become.



Mr. Simon Amoh, Mr. Robert Kuzoe, Madam Efua Falconer and Mr. Kennedy Fosu who are heads in various department of MTN Ghana in their session also gave motivational notes and shared some of their experiences in media works as they have been there before and haven’t been able to continue their media works because of their passionate commitment to serve MTN and make sure to provide support for media personnel through workshops like the one they are being involved now.

MTN involved media personnel from various media houses such as Skyypowerfm,beachfm,Empirefm,Smartnewsgh.blogspot.com,citifm,radioshama, radioahanta,joynews and many others who are into media works. The training was very successful at the end and they were very glad to be introduced to such high technology platform since most the them didn’t know about such advantages. They added that the training will help them a lot and plead that MTN keep giving them such opportunities like these to sharpen and improve their skills.
